Hello, I'm Sophie
I work as a project manager, am a parent, and I'm an expat based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of living abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t part of the long-range plan. As with many international assignments, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The early months were intense — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Daily chores seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built Vista Thistle Stream
Most online guidance was either corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical advice grounded in real life in Netherlands.
